New Delhi : As a group of party legislators has rebelled against Uttarakhand Chief Minister B.C. Khanduri, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday summoned him to the national capital, but maintained there would be no change in the state leadership.
“Twenty-four MLAs from Uttarakhand had come to Delhi to meet party president Rajnath Singh and briefed him about their grievances and sentiments. The party president has promised them that their feelings would be taken care of,” BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters here.
Asked about the possibility of removing Khunduri, Rudy said the party was not considering changing the state leadership.
Earlier in the day, the party summoned Khanduri and rebel group leader B.S. Koshiyari to senior leader L.K. Advani’s house to discuss and resolve the crisis.
On Sunday, 24 MLAs reached here and pressed for the removal of the Uttarakhand chief minister.
In their talks with Rajnath Singh, the rebel legislators reportedly complained that the chief minister had become inaccessible and had alienated the party cadre because of his attitude.
According to a BJP leader, the rebel camp has been asked to hold fire till the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP has 36 legislators in the 70-member Uttarakhand assembly. The state government also enjoys support of three members of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal.
