Beijing : Anthresh Lakra’s defensive ploy failed as he made an opening round exit from the Beijing Olympics’ boxing competition after going down 5-9 to Athens Games bronze medallist Bahodirjon Sultanov in the 57-kilogram featherweight category here Monday.
Lakra seldom went on the attack against Uzbekistan’s Sultanov, who let loose a flurry off punches which the Indian was busy evading.
Lakra trailed 12 after the first round, and 3-4 at the end of the second.
Lakra briefly staged a comeback in the third round, making the scoreline 5-5, but Sultanov upped the ante and landed several punches to shut out the Indian from the competition.
