Baghdad : A curfew has been imposed in Baquba, north Iraq, after a blast killed three and wounded three others, while tension and arrests prevail in other regions.
Ground Force Commander Ali Ghidan said the curfew is aimed at controlling the city after an explosive vested suicide bomber detonated near a police station in al-Sharqi, central Baquba.
The blast hit a caravan with Diyala Governor Raad al-Mulla and Chief of Operations Abdelkareem al-Rubaie, yet all the victims were civilians.
This is the second attack within 24 hours that targeted the police station since a suicidal woman with explosive belt killed Monday one civilian and wounded 17 other, including a police agent.
Jalawlaa District Major Anwar Hussein said the deployment of Iraqi military as part of Bashaer al-Kheir Operation in Khanaqeen suburbs creates tension with the Kurdish Peshmerga Armed Forces.
Hussein warned of ensuing conflict since the Peshmerga fear that Khanaqeen may be isolated with local tribe chiefs backing the Army at the Sahwa Councils, an action the Kurdish see as unfair.
The police also reports five arrests in west Mosul, Ninive, of alleged members of the Islamic State of Iraq, founded in October 2006 by seven armed groups including a very active al-Qaeda cell in central and west Iraq.
Nine people, six suspects and three wanted by the police, were arrested in Kirkuk Tuesday and charged with terrorism and premeditated murder.
