The incident took place at Dariachowk village near Kolaghat town, about 300 km from here.

“CPI-M activists ransacked and looted 12 houses of our supporters. They stole things worth over Rs.8 million,” said Trinamool leader Sisir Adhikari.

Adhikari added that seven party supporters suffered injuries while trying to prevent the CPI-M activists from entering their houses.

District Police Superintendent Satyashankar Panda said: “I have heard about the incident but no arrests have been made so far.”

The rivalry between the two parties intensified after the panchayat elections in May in which the Trinamool Congress defeated the CPI-M.
