Dubai : Bahrain will seek India’s help in setting up micro-finance schemes when its Minister for Social Development Fatima Al Balooshi visits India from Sunday.
“India has a vast experience in the area of micro-financing, which has contributed to the development of families belonging to low income group,” Al Balooshi told the Gulf Daily News.
“We want to learn from that experience for the benefit of our people in Bahrain,” she added.
The minister will head a seven-member delegation, which will include officials who had earlier interacted with Bangladeshi micro-financing pioneer and Nobel laureate Mohammed Yunus.
In New Delhi, the Bahraini delegation will visit a micro-finance institute and interact with NGOs training women in “becoming productive members of the community”, according to the report.
“We want to make use of the service of Indian experts in training our women in handicraft and also in using IT for further development of our productive family scheme,” Al Balooshi said.
The minister will also visit the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in New Delhi, the Enterprise Development Institute and the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad.
She will also hold talks with officials from the National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard).
Among the Indian leaders the Bahraini minister will meet are Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhary and Minister of Textiles Shankar Singh Vaghela.
Al Balosshi expressed the hope that her visit would result in several joint venture projects between India and Bahrain.
