Paris : The French Presidency of the European Union said in a statement issued Thursday that it was outraged by the killing Wednesday of four humanitarian workers near the Afghan capital Kabul.
The workers, who included mixed Canadian and other nationals as well as Afghans, were from the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
One Afghan who survived the attack in the vicinity of Kabul was injured.
The EU “condemns this cowardly act that struck people working for a humanitarian organization whose neutrality was not respected,” the statement issued by France on behalf of the EU said.
The EU also addressed full condolences to the families and relatives of those killed and expressed support for the Afghan struggle against terrorism.
The statement Thursday follows a similar declaration by the European Commission on Wednesday.
