Mumbai : The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai Police has seized four or five more laptops from new suspects in its efforts to unravel the mystery of an email sent minutes before the July 26 Ahmedabad serial blasts, a senior official said Thursday.
These laptops, seized from some people identified as techno-savvy former activists of the banned Students Islamic MOvement of India (SIMI), have been sent to the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) in Santacruz suburb, ATS chief Hemant Karkare told mediapersons here Thursday evening.
The police have also seized 10 more computers from the neighbourhood of US national Kenneth Haywood, who said his IP address was allegedly hacked by terrorists to send the email. The IP address was traced to Haywood’s residence in Navi Mumbai.
The tests were being conducted to ascertain whether the email was sent from any of these computers using Haywood’s Wi-Fi Internet connection.
While a preliminary report was received on the computers checked so far, the final report is expected by next week, Katrkare added.
For the past three days, the police have carried out polygraph, brain-mapping and lie-detection tests on Haywood, some of his neighbours and some people identified as former SIMI activists.
As many as 55 people died in the 20-odd coordinated bombings in Ahmedabad on the evening of July 26. Minutes before the first blast, an organisation calling itelf ‘Indian Mujahideen’ sent the email to media outfits, challenging security agencies to stop the attack.
