Bhubaneswar : Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday called for economic empowerment of the poor.
“We have got political freedom and achieved success in so many fields but the dreams of (Mahatma) Gandhiji will be fulfilled only when we will also get economic freedom,” Patnaik said after unfurling the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations here. “The poor and unemployed need economic empowerment.”
The Independence Day was celebrated across the state peacefully although Maoist guerrillas observed a “Black Day” in parts of the southern districts of Koraput and Malkangiri.
