Moscow : Russia confirmed on Friday its decision to halt military cooperation with NATO.
Russian Deputy Chief of Staff Colonel General Anatoly Nagovitsyn, in a press statement, said this was in response to the NATO’s stance regarding the crisis between Georgia and South Ossetia.
Moreover, he said the 18 Russian military checkpoints that were being built in the area adjacent to South Ossetia would be permanent.
Yesterday, a NATO official, requesting anonymity, told KUNA that Russia was stopping “all international military cooperation events” with the alliance until further notice.
The Russian move came two days after NATO foreign ministers decided in an emergency meeting in Brussels on Tuesday to freeze all contacts with Russia till Moscow withdraws all its troops from Georgia.
