“As many as sixteen miscreants were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces,” an army statement said.

The statement said that the Security Forces stopped a vehicle, suspected to be carrying miscreants at Sour bridge check post in Hangu district at 12:30 p.m., but occupants of the vehicle refused to get down from the vehicle.

“However, after insistence by Security Forces personnel, one individual got down from the vehicle and started moving towards the check post,” it said.

The forces cautioned him to stop and on refusal the forces fired on his direction but he exploded himself.

“The remaining miscreants sitting in the vehicle, meanwhile opened fire on the Security Forces personnel deployed at the check post,” the statement said.

It said the vehicle was engaged with fire by the Security Forces due to which vehicle also exploded.

“It is believed that the explosion took places as another suicide bomber was sitting inside the vehicle.”

One miscreant has been apprehended alive, the statement said.

The statement said that initial investigation revealed that both the suicide bombers were of foreign origin.
