Gaza : The two ships that set sail yesterday from Cyprus toward the shores of Gaza, in an attempt to break the Israeli siege on the area, have reportedly faced water mines Saturday morning but were able to safely avoid them.
Palestinian MP Jamal Al-Khudhari, head of the national committee for breaking the siege, said at a press conference that the two ships, one carrying medical equipment and the second transporting foreign supporters of the Palestinian cause, were now close to the shores of Gaza.
The ships are expected to arrive within the next few hours, he added.
Local media had reported this morning that the two ships had broken down and were facing high waves.
Foreigners on boat the ships hail from 16 countries of the world, and include a woman above 80 years of age.
Israel had warned that it would deny the ships entry.
