“Multiple militants were killed by Coalition forces during an operation to disrupt militant activities in eastern Afghan province of Kapisa on Saturday,” a Coalition statement said.

The Coalition forces engaged armed militants during the operation with small-arms fire, killing the militants, it said.

A large number of AK-47s and machine guns were also discovered and destroyed on the spot, it said.

In another incident, four insurgents were gun down when they attacked an ANA unit in Musa Qala district of southern Afghanistan’ s Helmand province on Sunday, said an ISAF statement.

The insurgents fired rifles and rocket-propelled grenades at the ANA unit who was guarding a satellite station, the statement said.

“The ANA soldiers with assistance from ISAF aircraft returned fire killing the attackers,” it said. “No ANA or ISAF soldiers were injured during the event.”

Taliban insurgents who staged a violent comeback three years ago have intensified their activities across Afghanistan over the past weeks to mount pressure on the government despite around 70,000 foreign troops stationed here vowing to keep peace and help reconstruction here.

Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the lives of over 3,000 people in Afghanistan so far this year.
