Gulf-based scribe elected head of world Malayalee body

Dubai : Gulf-based journalist Soman Baby has been elected global chairman of the World Malayalee Council (WMC).

Baby, associate editor of Bahrain’s Gulf Daily News, was elected to the post at WMC’s sixth annual conference in Singapore Saturday.

Singapore President S.R. Nathan was the chief guest at the event, which was also attended by Kerala’s Works and Housing Minister Binoy Viswam and Malayalee movie superstar Mammootty.

This is the first time that an Indian from the Gulf, home to a huge Malayalee population, has been elected as WMC global chairman.
