Islamabad : Pro-Taliban militants have threatened to blow up a hostel of provincial assembly members in northwestern Pakistan, the Dawn News TV channel reported Monday.
According to the report, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Taliban group operating from Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region, has sent a letter threatening to blow up the hostel meant for legislators in Peshawar, capital of North West Frontier Province.
Security has been tightened in the city following the threat, the report said quoting interior ministry sources.
The threat comes as the ministry Monday put the TTP on banned list.
According to the ministry, bank accounts of the TTP would be frozen and people associated with the group would be arrested.
On Sunday, the group unilaterally announced a ceasefire with security forces and offered to talk peace with the government. Their offer was turned down.
Pakistan has witnessed a series of recent suicide attacks which left more than 100 people dead. The latest was the attack on the house of a member of parliament in Swat valley Monday that killed 10 people.
Around 200 heavily-armed insurgents surrounded the house of Waqar Ahmad Khan in Kabal area of the restive valley and killed his brother Iqbal Khan, two nephews and seven bodyguards, the police said.
The TTP claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened to carry out more if the security forces continued their operations in Swat valley and tribal areas.
