Six soldiers injured in bombing in S Thailand province

Bangkok : Six soldiers were slightly injured when insurgents detonated a bomb hidden near a school in Thailand’s southern border province on Monday, local news network The Nation reported.

The explosion occurred in the morning at a School in Narathiwat’ s Tak Bai district.

Police said the bomb exploded shortly after the soldiers, who escorted teachers to the school, took a rest at corner inside the school compound.

The bomb was buried near the corner and was detonated with a mobile phone.

Only one day ago, more than 200 personnel in a combined military and police action searched an unnamed village in the province, apprehending two man in connection with the bombings on Friday which killed two persons and injured some 30.

Their two pistols, 181 rounds of ammunition, a large amount of U.S. currency, five cell phones, five bank account books, four motorcycles and a pickup were also seized.

Thailand’s three southernmost provinces — Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani have been troubled with insurgency-related violence which has claimed more than 3,500 lives since it resumed in early 2004.
