CyberMedia launches technology news service on mobile phones

New Delhi : Leading specialty media house CyberMedia has tied up with Netcore Solutions of Mumbai to offer technology news on mobile phones, a Netcore statement said here Thursday.

MyToday Dailies, which offers a news-based short messaging service (SMS), will offer the news service free of charge.

With this service, CyberMedia has for the first time entered the rapidly emerging mobile news medium.

To sign up for the free updates, all that a mobile phone user has to do is to SMS START TECH to 09845298452, for instance, START TECH MUMBAI, the statement said.

The service can be stopped at anytime by sending an SMS STOP TECH to the same number.

Subscribers will receive technology news, with focus on information technology (IT) and telecommunication sectors free of cost.

Apart from regular news updates, subscribers will also receive important news breaks.

Within 12 hours of the launch Thursday, as many as 10,000 subscribers signed up for the service, the statement said.

“CyberMedia will leverage its extensive news network spanning 15 publications in IT and telecommunications, life sciences and consumer digital lifestyle using mobile-based technology from Netcore Solutions,” said CyberMedia India Online president E. Abraham Mathew.

Next in line for launch is another mobile channel next month, with content from Living Digital, CyberMedia’s consumer digital lifestyle monthly, the statement said.

The channel will send out alerts and tips related to mobile and gadget news.

“With the mobile base approaching 300 million, we see great potential for media on the mobile. SMS will provide CyberMedia a daily or even more frequent connect with readers,” said Rajesh Jain, founder and managing director of Netcore Solutions, which pioneered MyToday Dailies.

Recently the GSM Association, the mobile world’s largest trade lobby, voted Netcore’s MyToday Dailies as one of the select few “True Mobile Start-ups” in the whole mobile world.

MyToday Dailies offers advertising options like click-to-call, click-to-buy, click-to-SMS and click-to-URL, the statement said.

Started a year ago, it has garnered a subscriber base of close to four million voluntary users, who subscribe to over 25 different channels of information, it said.

The company operates different channels of information including news alerts, breaking news, cricket updates, daily jokes, beauty tips and zodiac forecast.

CyberMedia is Asia’s largest specialty media house and amongst India’s top five magazine publishers, the statement claimed.

The group’s media business includes 15 publications that include Dataquest, PCQuest, Voice&Data, BioSpectrum (India and Asia) and Living Digital.

The group has 12 websites led by www.ciol.com, and produces two knowledge-based weekly television programmes.

It also offers media services such as market research (IDC India), content management (Content Matrix LLC), and multimedia services.
