Dubai : Member of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Supreme Council and ruler of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has ordered the release of 60 prisoners lodged in various jails in the emirate.
Sheikh Saqr pardoned the prisoners of various nationalities ahead of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan so that they could lead life anew, the state-run Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
“The pardon will provide a good opportunity to tens of inmates to integrate into the society anew and practice their daily life as usual away from the bad behaviour that landed them into jail,” said Ahmed Mohammed Al Khateri, chairman of Ras Al Khaimah’s department of courts.
In a similar move, UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Wednesday granted an executive pardon to 700 prisoners, both UAE nationals and expatriates, lodged in various jails across the country.
