CPI-M youth wing men attack police station in Kerala, free activist

Malappuram (Kerala) : Members of the youth wing of the ruling Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) attacked a police station in Malappuram district Saturday and freed one of their activists from custody, the police said. Three officers, including a woman constable, were injured in the incident.

The incident occurred when members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) attacked the police station at Kottakkal in Malappuram district to free one of their activists, who had been arrested earlier in the day.

“About 35 DYFI men attacked the police station and freed Hamdan. He is an accused in two non-bailable cases. He was arrested by a police patrol early morning Saturday. When the attack took place only a few officers were present at the police station,” A.M. Siddique, the sub-inspector at Kottakkal police station told IANS.

Hamdan was once again arrested by the Kerala police Saturday at Pookkiparamba in Malappuram district.

Commenting on the incident Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters at Kannur that the government would take action against those who attacked the police station.
