Prime Minister of the Tibetan parliament Samdhong Rinpoche said: “The universal prayer sessions and the symbolic fasting are aimed at achieving world peace and happiness for all human beings in the world in general, and particularly for people in China and Tibet.”

“We are grateful that the Dalai Lama is observing the fast and attending prayer sessions in Mumbai and we convey our immense gratitude and respect to him,” he added.

Underlining that the activity is not a protest borne out of hatred and anger, he said: “It’s an effort to strengthen our commitment to non-violence and to create compassion in the minds of the oppressor.”

The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, is undergoing medical examination at the Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai, where doctors said Friday that there was no cause for concern and he only needed rest and medical treatment.
