New Delhi : India’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday criticised the government for the alleged blame game going on among the country’s security agencies after the Mumbai terror attacks, and said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should put a stop to it.
Party general secretary Arun Jaitley referred to media reports that the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), the country’s external intelligence agency, had specific information about the terrorists’ plan and said stories were being planted in the media by agencies to shift the blame from one to another.
“Each agency was trying to say they had passed on crucial inputs to the next and the latter is doing the same,” Jaitley told reporters.
He said each agency was thus trying to wash its hands of to escape the blame for the Nov 26 terrorist strike that claimed 183 lives.
This is a dangerous situation and the prime minister is watching this silently, he said. “It is time the prime minister stepped in and put an end to this.”
Jaitley said he was surprised that instead of speaking of a strong anti-terror law, the government was now considering to make amendments in the National Security Act (NSA).
“The NSA is a preventive law while any anti-terror legislation will be penal in nature,” he said.
