Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said that Sports Minister M.S. Gill voiced fears that the target of opening an additional 30,000 hotel rooms might not be fully achieved.

“There is an element of urgency. Everything needs to be completed well before time,” Sibal later told reporters.

Thereafter, the cabinet asked a group of ministers (GoM) to report in two weeks on all outstanding issues relating to the Games as also on what needs to be showcased during the opening and closing ceremonies.

The GoM comprises Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy, Tourism Minister Ambika Soni as well as Sibal.

Responding to a question on the security aspects of the Commonwealth Games in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, Sibal said: “Don’t you worry. Whatever needs to be done will be done.”
