Mohali (Punjab) : The Punjab police have already started to scale up security in and around the Mohali cricket stadium where the second Test match between India and England is due to be played, ahead of the visit of the security advisor from England.
“We have only come to know about the English security advisor’s visit from the newspapers and have not got any official intimation about it. However, to avoid any last-minute problem, we have started our preparations”, Senior Superintendent of Police Jatinder Singh Aulakh told IANS here Thursday.
Even Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) officials in Mohali district in Punjab, around 10 km from Chandigarh, are not sure about the date of the visit of Reg Dickason, the security advisor of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
“We do not know the exact date of the visit of Reg Dickason, who is coming here to assess the security scenario. We are fully ready for any kind of security check and inspection,” said GS Walia, joint secretary of the PCA.
The PCA stadium at Mohali had successfully hosted a Test match between India and Australia Oct 17-21.
“We do not know whether the match will be held here or not but our security measures are of the highest grade. There will be three-tier security system, and we have special emphasis to check that nobody enters the stadium with fake tickets,” said Aulakh.
He said intelligence personnel will be sitting between the spectators to keep an eye on any anti-social element. Meanwhile, close circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed all around the stadium and at all the sensitive places inside the premises, he added.
Aulakh said depending on the needs and requirements, they could also avail the services of the state police commandos, whose headquarters is just a km from the stadium. “We can any time call additional force in case of any untoward incident.”
