In the other match in Group D Wednesday, NEC Nijmegen shocked Spartak Moscow to keep their hopes of qualification alive.

Serie A side Udinese went into the match against Zagreb needing just a draw to progress and never looked back after going in front through an early goal from Fabio Quagliarella. Christian Obodo sealed the win with Udinese’s second goal 11 minutes from time. Igor Biscan pulled one back for the Croats in time added on.

Spartak looked well on the way to joining Udinese in the knockout stages when Serghei Covalciuc headed home Nikita Bazhenov’s cross after just two minutes.

However, substitute Jhon van Beukering levelled matters six minutes from time for the Dutch and Lasse Schone completed an unlikely 2-1 win for the visitors three minutes later when the Dane netted the winner.
