New Delhi: Syed Shahabuddin, convener of Babri Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC) has appealed all Muslim and secular organizations not to organize protests, demonstrations, and marches on the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition.
The appeal is in due to the charged situation following the terrorists attack on Mumbai. It has been feared that Hindutva organizations may attack the peaceful protests and attempt to start riots. Only last year, a peaceful demonstration by Muslims at Jantar Mantar in Delhi was attacked by Shiv Sena goons.
Syed Shahabuddin appealed that this year peaceful meetings should be organized in a central place in each city to remind the government about its promise to rebuild the masjid and also under the 1994 ruling of the Supreme Court it has declared in the parliament that it will accept the decision of the special bench in Ayodhya dispute case. The resolution and demands made in this meeting should be sent to the Prime Minister and Home Minister.
BMMCC also request imams of the mosques to do special prayers after zuhar prayers on Dec. 6th.
Babri Masjid was destroyed on Dec. 6th, 1992 in the culmination of a movement led by the Sangh Parivar. Thousands of Muslims died in the aftermath when violence erupted in several parts of the country.
