New Delhi : Action would be taken against the Jamaat-ud-Dawa if it was found guilty of terrorist activity after investigations were over and not because India said so, Pakistan’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Mahmud Ali Durrani said Wednesday.
“If they (Jamaat-ud-Dawa) are involved in terrorist activity we will surely take action against them but only after investigations are over and not if India says so,” Durrani told a news channel.
He said Pakistan was investigating the terror links of the organisation and would take severe action after investigations are complete.
Jamaat-ud-Dawa is the front organisation of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) that was banned in 2002. India and the US have said that the LeT and its leaders were involved in the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
India Tuesday formally asked the Security Council to declare Jamaat-ud-Dawa a terrorist outfit. It also demanded that its leader Hafiz Mohammed Saeed be placed under the Security Council list of global terrorists.
Bowing to India’s demand and pressure from the international community, Pakistan’s ambassador in the UN also said it would proscribe the Jamaat-ud-Dawa and take action against its leaders for their role in the Mumbai terror attack.
The action would include freezing the assets of the group, Abdullah Hussain Haroon said in a statement Tuesday before the Security Council during a special debate on terrorism where members called for action against those responsible for the Nov 26 terror siege of Mumbai.
“The government of Pakistan has already initiated investigations on its own pertaining to the allegations of involvement of persons and entities in the Mumbai attacks,” Haroon said.
