The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has suggested protective measures and proper supervision when borewells are dug. It has also emphasised proper implementation of guidelines for digging borewells and stringent action against the guilty to avoid such incidents in the future, she said.

The lack of safety measures at borewell sites has repeatedly proven hazardous to human lives, the minister said and added with many cases have been reported of children dying after falling into them. Recently a two-year-old boy’s body was recovered more than 96 hours after he fell into an open borewell while playing near his home in an Agra village.
