Dhaka : Bangladesh asked its two neighbors of India and Pakistan for a peaceful resolution of the terrorism crisis in the South Asian region, according to a statement of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
“We will ask for a peaceful resolution of the issue of terrorism in the South Asian Subcontinent,” Bangladeshi caretaker government foreign adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury was quoted as saying in the statement.
It said that Chowdhury made the comment while he was referring to the current escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan following the Mumbai attacks.
“Terrorists must be identified and punished to deter recurrences. But there is no reason for conflicts between States for this reason,” he said.
“In fact, I have every confidence that the States in South Asiawill cooperate with one another to address this issue that cannot be allowed to negatively impact on the relationships among the nations of the region”, he added.
