Lagos : The United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) has said more than 52,000 Nigerian women die every year from pregnancy-related complications, the Punch newspaper reported Monday.
Unsafe sex has become the second highest cause of death among people in one of the poorest countries of the world, the UNFPA said in a report titled Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights released Sunday.
The report said the issues of disability and premature death due to wrong sexual habits and poor reproductive health have become too enormous to be ignored by the governments and individuals around the world.
According to UNFPA, pregnancy-related complications kill more than half a million women every year globally, leaving more than 210 million with disabilities.
