Markets open higher, then dip

Mumbai : A key index of the Indian stock exchange opened marginally higher Wednesday but then slipped lower than its closing figure Tuesday.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened at 10,073.10 points, higher than its previous close at 9,976.98 points.

But within the first 30 points, the Sensex had fallen to 9,854.43, which was 122.55 points or 1.23 percent below its previous close.

The broader-based 50-share S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also fell to 3,007.50 points at the same time, 1.13 percent below its closing figure of 3,041.75 points Tuesday.
