New Delhi : India is planning to introduce a new injection to fight multiple diseases that mainly affect children below five years of age, officials said Friday.
According to an official, the health ministry is considering a single shot medicine to protect children against five diseases.
“India is considering pentavalent formulations to protect children against five vaccine preventable diseases such as diptheria, pertusis, tetanus, hepatitis-B and Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b) by giving a single injection,” the official said.
If finalised, the effort will reduce child mortality and the shortage of immunisation medicine can be addressed to a large extent.
However, a final decision is yet to be taken.
