Noida : Ravi Verma alias Jeetu, wanted for the murder of Varanasi councillor Vijay Verma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been gunned down in a shootout in Noida, the police said Saturday
The Special Operations Group of the Varanasi police and the Noida Police gunned down Ravi Verma in sector 93 area at about 11.30 p.m. Friday, the police said, adding that the criminal was carrying a cash reward of Rs.10,000.
“We had received an information from our Varanasi counterparts that Ravi Verma was roaming freely in Noida and was staying here. He had a strong criminal history. Apart from the councillor’s murder, he was also wanted in several other criminal cases. We put him on surveillance and traced out his location,” said Senior Superintendent of Police R.K. Chaturvedi.
The police recovered a bike, a 1-mm pistol, an SBI ATM card, a mobile phone and a diary from his possession.
The shootout came two days after a notorious criminal Kalu alias Narendra, wanted for the Dec 10 murder of several traders in Baghpat, was gunned down by the Noida police.
