Traffic on the world heritage rail line had been disrupted throughout Sunday after the train derailed near Dharampur railway station in Solan district at around 8.15 a.m. Three people were injured in the accident.

“The traffic on the 96-km-long narrow gauge railroad was restored this (Monday) morning,” Shimla Station Superintendent P.S. Gill told IANS.

He added that all trains plying between Kalka in Haryana and Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, were running on schedule.

Divisional Railway Manager (Ambala) H.K. Jaggi had cited landslides as the reason for the derailment. Railway authorities have initiated an inquiry into the accident.

Five trains run to and from daily on the Kalka-Shimla rail line. Two special holiday trains had been started Saturday to cater to the Christmas and New Year rush.

Unesco had included the 30-inch gauge Kalka-Shimla rail line in the list of world heritage sites July 7 this year. The scenic journey along the rail line from 640 metres above sea level at Kalka to Shimla at 2,060 metres attracts a large number of tourists.
