Lucknow : Thousands of people in the Uttar Pradesh state capital have written letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding strong measures to combat terrorism, following the Nov 26 terror attacks in Mumbai.
The campaign has been initiated by a social organisation, the “Samajik Sarokar Manch” (SSM).
“People from all walks of life including students, engineers, doctors, scientists, businessmen and housewives are all turning up in huge numbers for writing the letters,” SSM co-ordinator P.K. Gupta told IANS Monday.
Most of the people, in their letters, have demanded quick disposal of cases pertaining to terror, he added.
The campaign is being organised at the General Post Office (GPO) and various schools in the city.
“In my letter, I have told the Prime Minister that now it is high time when all political parties should unite for waging a war against terror,” said Rajneesh Rastogi, a B. Tech student.
Airing similar views, Arjita Dubey, a housewife in Aliganj area of the city, said she had asked the Prime Minister to seek support from all political parties for tackling terror in the country.
According to SSM members, the letter campaign will continue till the central government assures them it would take strict action against terrorist camps in Pakistan.
