New Delhi : Kruttika Nadig of Maharashtra won the 35th Parsvnath National Women chess title by playing a safe draw in the 11th and final round of the tournament here Sunday.
She totalled eight points as she settled for a quick draw against third seed and state mate Eesha Karavade in Sicilian defence in just 20 moves.
Kruttika achieved 11-round Women Grandmaster norm from this championship and also pocketed Rs.100,000 as prize money.
Meanwhile, defending champion International Master Tania Sachdev’s hope of winning the national title at home turf shattered in the final round as she lost her crucial eleventh round game against Asian Junior Champion Mary Ann Gomes of West Bengal and had to be satisfied with second spot.
Tania needed a perfect score against Mary to fetch third consecutive national title but under pressure she made crucial mistakes and that helped Mary to secure a full point from this outing.
In the other final round encounters, displaying a fine attacking game in Slav Defence, Women Grand Master Nisha Mohota overcame Soumya Swaminathan in 68 moves.
Seasoned campaigner Swathi Ghate and Women Grandmaster Eesha Karavade along with Nisha tied for the third spot but better tie-break score helped Nisha to secure third spot. Swathi and Eesha finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Swathi got better off Pon N Krithika of Tamil Nadu in 53 moves while Orissa girls Padmini Rout and Kiran Manisha Mohanty signed the peace treaty in just 14 moves.
Amrutha Mokal overcame Bhakti Kulkarni after a marathon game that lasted 73 moves but in the process both fetched 11 round Women International norms.
