“We once again demand a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) inquiry into the murder and would launch a state-wide agitation soon if our demand is not considered,” Yadav said.

Gupta, an engineer with the state Public Works Department, was lynched in Auraiya Dec 24 night. The police arrested BSP legislator Shekhar Tiwari for his alleged role in the murder.

“PWD Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui has accepted that the killing was not a result of any departmental rivalry as claimed by Chief Minister Mayawati a couple of days ago,” Amar Singh told mediapersons after meeting Gupta’s family in Lakhimpur Kheri district.

The two leaders also criticised the Left parties for proposing Mayawati’s name as their prime ministerial candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“Leftists like A.B. Bardhan and Prakash Karat are projecting a candidate like Mayawati for the prestigious post while she is involved in spreading vandalism and loot in the state through goons and mafias,” Amar singh said.
