By Xinhua,
Johannesburg : South Africa has lifted a blockade on aid to Zimbabwe because of the worsening humanitarian crisis in the neighbouring country, a South African presidential spokesman said Monday.
South Africa halted aid to Zimbabwe earlier in a bid to build pressure on Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and the opposition to hasten the formation of a national unity government.
Johannesburg has reviewed the earlier decision in view of the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe and started sending the aid to Zimbabwe, presidential spokesman Thabo Masebe told the media.
South Africa last month withheld 300 million rand ($31 million) of agricultural aid to Zimbabwe, saying the aid would not be released until an inclusive government was in place in Zimbabwe.
