Rahul Nimsadkar of village Kapsi near here had a relationship with a minor and had promised to marry her. However, he went back on his word after she became pregnant.

The victim’s family filed a rape case against Nimsadkar.

Additional District and Sessions Judge D.G. Bansod Jan 30 held Nimsadkar guilty of rape. He was awarded a five year jail term along with a fine of Rs.10,000.

The victim had delivered a child and attained majority during the court case.

Considering that social circumstances would make it difficult for the victim to marry, the judge told Nimsadkar that he could be let off if he agreed to marry her and has given him two months for doing so, his lawyer R.N. Khare said Friday.

“The accused has, however, denied the charge and has decided to go in appeal against the verdict”, Khare told IANS.
