The event, at the UNESCO headquarters, will be attended by invitees of UNESCO General Director Koichiro Matsuura and includes top level scientists and presidents and CEOs of important corporations in charge of policy.

The event will also be attended by students from many countries, rewarded for their creativity in a contest dealing with the issue organized in 2007.

The main objective of the proclamation is to create healthier societies, prosperous and free of risks with the most efficient use of the knowledge of over 400,000 earth science experts.

Discussions will focus on three issues: demographic growth and climate change: two challenges for the earth, earth’s resources: threat or opportunity, and geological risks: reduce them to a minimum.

The proclamation of this event was an initiative of the United Nations Education Science and Culture Organization and the International Geologic Science Union.
