Addis Ababa : Somalia’s Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein said the 10th African Union Summit held in Addis Ababa was an occasion on which constructive ideas were reflected concerning the measures being taken to improve the peace and stability of Somalia.
In a press conference he gave on Saturday, Prime Minister Hussien said that he held discussions with various African heads of government and states as well as with representatives of the international community engaged in the Somali peace process.
Despite the improvements being witnessed in the peace and stability and provision of humanitarian aid in Somalia much remains to be done to ensure lasting peace in the country, the Premier Underlined.
Ethiopia, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania are providing all assistance to the efforts of ensuring peace in Somalia, he said.
Ethiopia, besides its efforts to re-stabilise Somalia, is providing assistance towards building capacity of the governmental institutions of Somalia, the Premier said and expressed belief that Ethiopia’s assistance would continue in a strengthened manner.
The Premier on the occasion called on African countries that earlier pledge to send peacekeeping mission to Somalia to keep their promises.
Nigeria will soon deploy its peacekeeping mission to Somali, he said and expressed hope that the remaining countries would follow suit.
Somalia’s Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein, two months into the job, earlier addressed a pre-summit meeting of the Somalia Contact Group to present a new four-point peace plan.
