Chandigarh : Police raided a few places in Patiala Sunday, a day after the bomb attack on the convoy of controversial Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh.
A joint team of Haryana and Punjab Police conducted raids at a few places in Patiala town, 100 km from here, following the attack on the dera chief near Karnal town in Haryana Saturday evening.
Haryana and Punjab states remained on high alert following Saturday’s incident.
Angry dera supporters had late Saturday night come out on the streets at several places in Haryana, including Karnal and Ambala, and blocked the National Highway-1. They also set some vehicles on fire and resorted to violence after which police had to cane charge them and fire in the air.
Ten people, all dera supporters, were injured in the bomb attack Saturday evening on the convoy of the dera chief at Nilokheri township in Karnal district.
The police later recovered a detonator from the spot and arrested two men who were driving a truck from which the bomb was thrown. The sect chief was unhurt and continued his journey to western Uttar Pradesh for a religious congregation.
The dera chief enjoys Z-plus security cover in the wake of the widespread violence against him and his sect by Sikhs last year that followed his dressing up as the 10th Sikh guru, Gobind Singh.
He faces two cases of murder conspiracy and one of alleged rape in a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Ambala.
