A section of the media here has been repeatedly making such allegations. PMK leader G.K. Mani, an ally of the ruling DMK, levelled the same charges on the chief minister in the assembly Thursday.

Karunanidhi has denied any wrongdoing and termed the reports as “mischievous”.

“I will be prosecuting the chief minister for violating guidelines laid out by Supreme Court Judge Kuldip Singh in 1997. Karunanidhi will meet the same fate as Ramakrishna Hegde did in 1988,” Swamy said.

Hegde was forced to quit as chief minister of Karnataka following a phone-tapping scandal.

“I challenge Karunanidhi to refute my charges with proper evidence,” Swamy said.

Commenting on the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project, Swamy said the DMK regime was attempting “to administer oxygen to a corpse”.

“I am predicting that the central government will not allow any progress of this senseless project. It is dead as a dodo,” he quipped.
