Colombian soldiers nab woman rebel wanted by US

Bogota : The Colombian Army has arrested a woman belonging to the leftist rebel group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), who is wanted by Washington for her involvement in the kidnapping of three US contractors, EFE news agency reported Sunday.

Nancy Conde Rubio, 36, is accused of taking part in the kidnapping of Marc Gonsalves, Keith Stansell and Thomas Howes, and of drug trafficking, army commander Gen Mario Montoya said.

Rubio was captured in Cucuta, capital of the northeastern Norte de Santander province.

According to military intelligence, she is a member of a FARC faction known as First Front.

Besides the Americans, the group is holding Colombia’s former presidential candidate Íngrid Betancourt, who also has a French citizenship, among 40 other high-profile hostages.
