Gaza : One Palestinian was killed and three others were wounded in a shooting incident at Rafah crossing at Egypt-Gaza border on Monday, a day after Egyptian border guards finally sealed off the breached border fences, witnesses and medics said.
Mo’aweya Hassanein, chief of ambulance and emergency service in Gaza said that Hamed al-Qadi was killed and three others were wounded in the incidenet.
Witnesses said dozens of stranded Palestinians demonstrated at the borders, demanding the crossing be opened again for them to enter into the Gaza Strip.
They added that during the demonstration, Palestinians threw stones at the Egyptian security forces and Egyptian border police opened fire and launched teargas canisters at them.
Medics said more than a dozen of people were sent to hospital for treatment of the fallout of teargas.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians flocked into Egypt after Islamic Hamas militants blew up the fence of the borders on Jan.23. Egypt had closed its borders after the Palestinians were allowed to buy their needs of food and fuel supplies.
Egyptian officials had earlier stated that Egypt would never accept to repeat what happened again, saying that blowing up the fence of the borders “had hurt the national security of Egypt.”
