The explosion took place late Monday in Helmand province. A taxi-cab, carrying civilians, hit the explosive device apparently planted by the anti-government Taliban militants to target Afghan or foreign forces vehicles.

Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hussein Andiwal, police chief of the troubled province, told journalists the casualties included three men, a woman, and a child. He accused Taliban insurgents of planting the bomb.

A day earlier, 10 people, including Taliban militants and some civilians, were killed when the foreign and Afghan troops raided a house in the western Farah province of the country.

Afghan policy say the house, owned by local Taliban commander Mullah Abdul Mannan, was raided after a tip off that militants were holding a meeting there.
