Islamabad : Nearly 30,000 members of civil society and grassroots organizations are being mobilized to monitor polling in virtually all the 272 constituencies of the National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) of Pakistan to be held on February 18, a top civil society leader said.
This is happening for the first time in Pakistan’s history.
In a communication to the Citizens Group on the Electoral Process set up by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development And Transparency (PILDAT), former federal minister Javed Jabbar said two coalitions of civil society public interest and community-based organizations were associated with the preparatory phase for the elections and observance of the polling conditions on February 18.
These were Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) and the Pakistan Coalition for Fair Elections (PACFREL).
