Ankara : Turkish police arrested Wednesday five individuals, including a member of the special forces and a military personnel, who were plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in an armed operation.
Anadolu News Agency said the police found forged passports and mobile phones in the possession of the arrestees.
It added that the plot was discovered through monitoring of an online blog frequented by the five individuals, who resided in the city of Anatolia, on the coast of the Mediterranean in southern Turkey.
The news agency explained that security authorities were alerted of this matter and the arrests were made after surveillance.
The detainees are currently being interrogated, it said.
