Brussels : Defence ministers of the 26-member North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) are meeting for informal talks in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, Thursday and Friday.
They will discuss in detail security situation in Afghanistan and challenges faced by the ISAF mission, according to a NATO statement released here Thursday. NATO has 42,000 troops under ISAF.
At a special session with non-NATO ISAF contributors attended by representatives from the UN, EU, World Bank and Afghan Defence Minister Wardak, they will exchange views on the responsibilities of the international community and the Afghan authorities in bringing durable peace and prosperity to this country.
Special attention will be paid to the situation in Kosovo where NATO has deployed 16 000 troops in its KFOR mission.
On Friday, the NATO-Russia Council (NRC) will bring together allied ministers and Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov. It will provide an opportunity to discuss freely outstanding political and security issues.
