Montreal : Some popular baby bottles leak a dangerous chemical when heated and this may trigger health problems, a report has warned.
The bottle produce, when they are heated, a substance called Bisphenol A (BPA) – a hormone-disrupting chemical considered to be potentially harmful to human health and the environment.
Environmental health organisations in the US and Canada are calling for a ban on the use of this chemical on consumer products, the online edition of Health Day reported.
According to the report, researchers from the University of Missouri-Columbia heated 19 different plastic bottles from three different major manufacturers and found very significant levels of BPA chemical.
“We’re calling for an immediate moratorium on the use of BPA in all baby bottles as well as all food and beverage containers. It’s not necessary,” one expert said.
