New Delhi : The central government Friday announced that it has banned the export of non-basmati rice with immediate effect.
“The government has, with immediate effect, prohibited any export of non-basmati rice under the transitional arrangements,” said a commerce and industry ministry statement.
However, the reason for imposing the ban was not mentioned in the statement.
In October last year, the government had imposed a similar ban. However, due to pressure from the farmers and exporters it had to withdraw the ban on superior non-basmati rice, which costs more than $425 a tonne.
