Fire erupts in N London market with no injuries

London : Hazardous response teams were sent to battle a major fire broke out in Camden Town market, northern London, on Saturday evening, with no injuries reported.

The flames, which is said to have leapt up to over 10 meters in the air, started at about 19:20 local time in Camden Market, one of the biggest tourist attraction in London.

Up to 100 firefighters and 25 fire engines were sent there for the fire fight, which lasted about three hours.

There are no reports of casualties so far but London Fire Brigade said earlier people were reported trapped in the fire.

Police sealed off roads near the blaze and some houses and flats are being evacuated.

Hawley Arms, a popular Camden pub which is frequented by celebrities was damaged by the fire.

London Ambulance Service said it has ambulances and a hazardous response team at the scene.

Explosions were heard when the fire started but the cause of the fire was not yet clear.

Camden Town, a major tourist attraction, attracts up to 300,000visitors, mostly young on weekend to its open-air and indoor markets and bars, clubs, shops and restaurants.
